STRANGE as it may seem to the present day residents of Pollok, but many of the roads and sewers in the south side development were laid by German prisoners of war.
Here we see Councillor McInnes, Glasgow Corporation's sub-convener of housing watching German PoWs, still in their Wehrmacht uniforms, getting to grips with the job in hand.
Despite the privations of the time, some German PoWs decided to settle in Scotland after the war where they built new lives for themselves
