16/6/2008Brother, sister haven't missed a day of school
While most parents have problems dragging their children out of bed in the morning Hayley, 11, and Stephen Hughes, 17, from Pollok, Glasgow have never missed a single day of school.
Hayley has notched up seven years at St Vincent's Primary in Carnwadric without so much as a sniffle or bout of sickness.
And even more impressive is her brother Stephen.
The fifth-year pupil at St Paul's High School in Pollok and has just finished his Higher exams after 12 years and 36 school terms without missing a class.
Hayley has just won a gold star award for her attendance and says she is determined to equal her brother's flawless record.
But the youngster says there is a drawback to never missing a day of school.
She says she gets ill in the holidays instead.
Hayley said: "It's good because you don't get behind in your schoolwork.
"I don't know how I do it but I usually get ill in the holidays.
"It's a competition between me and Stephen now and I want to beat him."
Mum Amanda MacIsaac, 38, said: "School is important.
"Stephen and Hayley have known that from an early age but they have always just enjoyed going.
"The three of us are quite healthy.
"Neither of them have ever had anything seriously wrong with then.
"Stephen had the chicken pox in the summer holidays as a child but that's it.
"I'm very proud of them."
Headteacher at St Vincent's Anne Young, said: "It's very unusual.
"We have pupils who have very good attendance but this is an ncredible achievement."
